Maid of Honour Speech – First Thoughts
I was so excited about being asked to be the Maid of Honour for my friend, Claire’s Wedding. I thought that it was such an honour to be asked. We have been friends since school and I had never really thought about being a maid of honour before. It was not until about a week later though that I realised that I would have to give a maid of honour speech during the wedding. My friend had explained to me the maid of honour duties that she wanted me to carry out and the speech was one of them.
I was terrified…
I must admit that at first I was really quite terrified thinking about giving the wedding speech and having to stand up in front of all the guests to give my maid of honour toast. Don’t get me wrong I was also really excited about the wedding and felt so privileged to be asked to be maid of honour for my friend. But I really was terrified as I didn’t have any experience at all of standing up in front of people to give a speech. If I knew how great it all turned out though I needn’t have worried but I didn’t know that at the time. I think as well that nerves are good for you to a certain extent and can help you to do the necessary planning and helps with the performance I guess.
I decided though to break things down in to smaller chunks and to start to plan my speech. I wanted to give a brilliant wedding speech for my friend and therefore thought that the best thing I could do was to plan it early and not leave it until the last minute.
I then started to write down a few memories that me and the bride shared. Some of these were funny stories or situations we had been in. Some were sad and sentimental. I just wanted to write down as much as I could that would help me to write a really good wedding day speech for my friend. If you are involved in preparing your own speeches for weddings then I would certainly recommend you do this and that you do this as early as possible.
I also came across a great ebook that provided lots of great help and advice. Click here to find out how this can help you.
